Fri, June 5th: 2 hour int/adv practice
Taught by: Tamara
Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Cost: $20.00/ No Class Cards
What does an “advanced” yoga practice mean? Is it having a level of physical prowess with asanas or is it cultivating a deeper sensitivity to the nuances of the physical practice and its corresponding limbs?
Tamara leads a well-rounded, two-hour practice that provides us with an opportunity to mentally and physically challenge ourselves beyond the confines of our daily practice.
This class includes ample time for playful, safe explorations of arm balances, inversions, backbends and forward bends, topped off by a long, deep savasana!
A deeper physical practice helps us build the strength and courage to explore the more challenging asanas. We’ll couple this work with an inner exploration of what it means to work on an “advanced” level in our practice. Through this class, Tamara will create a space for us to build towards the most advanced point in each of our own practices. While we might add new poses to our repertoire, this class is an excellent opportunity to observe our reactions to challenges in our practice and perhaps discover something about our samskaras, or belief patterns, in the process.
About Tamara: Tamara’s been teaching at Mala Yoga since we opened in November 2007. She brings a wealth of unique experiences to her teaching, which includes growing up in Spain, studying ballet and a continued love of dance (especially the tango), an appreciation of and career in the arts, and being a mom. She turned to yoga as a way to alleviate pain from a horseback riding accident. Inspired by yoga’s benefits, Tamara completed her 500-teacher training program at Yoga Works, under the guidance of Jenny Arthur, Jodie Rufty, and Rama Nina. She loves living in Brooklyn and “can’t imagine my life without yoga!”
