Fri, June 19: Pilates for Yogis part I
This is one in a 2 part series.
Taught by: Robbie Cook
Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Cost: $20.00/ No Class Cards
Much of the Pilates oeuvre is based on yoga. Part One of Pilates for Yogis explores how Pilates principles can inform and grow our yoga practice. Robbie, a Pilates teacher and yoga practitioner, leads us through a total body exploration of specific asanas and common yoga sequences to strengthen the connection between Pilates principles and yoga practice. These principles include core strength, stability of the joints, and timing in the execution of movement.
The dual exploration of yoga and Pilates can increase our awareness of the space between asanas, which are often the moments in practice when our body awareness falls short. By increasing our basic knowledge of the anatomy and function of ‘core muscles,’ we can deepen our yoga practice in new and safe ways. Robbie will also address anatomical concerns to determine how your body is able to fit into the form of Pilates and yoga, rather than the form fitting onto the body.
This workshop is suitable for students of all levels.
About Robbie:
Robbie has practiced various forms of Yoga since 1995 and is currently working on his yoga teacher certification from Yoga High in Manhattan. He has taught Pilates for 11 years and danced professionally for 14 years, which led him to many discoveries about movement and how seemingly unrelated movement forms can inform one another. In addition to Pilates and yoga, Robbie’s teaching is influenced by his study and practice of other movement modalities such as Tai Ji Quan, Feldenkrais, and Functional Anatomy as taught by Irene Dowd.
Pilates for Yogis Part Two coming in July with Sara Sessions.
