Tias Little in Brooklyn, Oct 4th- 7th

Published on July 28th, 2010

Mala Yoga is happy to announce that Tias Little will lead the first level of his teacher training at the Brooklyn Ballet, located in downtown Brooklyn.  We are pleased to co-host this special event with Prajna Yoga, Tias & Surya Little’s yoga school in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Tias is a “teacher’s teacher” and many of the Mala teaching team have studied with him and continue to do so.  This is a unique opportunity to stay local and study with a internationally-recognized yoga teacher.

To register for the training, please contact Prajna Yoga directly.

From the Ground Up

Tias & Surya Little

In level I students will explore the foundational teachings of the yoga practice. In the body we investigate the feet and legs and, given our bipedal stance, how they are key to supporting upright posture. We teach techniques to open the feet, knee and hip prior to the practice of standing poses. We review the key anatomical structures that relate to the arches of the feet and detail how the feet are “the foundation to the temple of the body”. We study the importance of positioning the femur under the pelvis and spine in order to achieve optimum balance in the leg. To this end we study the musculature of the leg and the primary arteries and nerve channels that flow into the legs through the pelvis. We study the inner, outer and core myo-fascial meridians in the legs. We emphasize the importance of the sacrum relative to the lower two chakras, mula and uddiyana bandhas. We undertake an in-depth study of the ilio-psoas and its preeminent position in the body.

Class Card Policy Change

Published on May 24th, 2010

“In our effort to make the transition from class cards to MindBody Online as effortless as possible, and to honor the policies that were in place when many of you bought your cards, if your card expired between January 1 and May 31, 2010, we have extended their use date. We have added a balance of the amount you owe in buy backs to your account. This can be paid off all at once when you come to use your card and you will have a minimum of three months to finish up your card.”

Active touch can greatly enhance development….particularly in language & social development. Touch is one of the primary sources of pleasure. Being lovingly held and touched is a great spur to development. The muscles relax, the breath deepens, tension is dispersed, and the baby’s heart rate synchronizes with the caregiver developing heart coherency, a vital element in health and wellbeing.

This very gentle bodywork approach can help little ones with calming and integrating the nervous system resulting in improved sleep, digestion, and resolution of birth stress. We work with attunement, breath, heart coherency, and a slowed pace to match the baby’s nervous system encouraging deeper bonding and attachment between parents and baby. No massage experience necessay!

Bring two baby blankets. Massage oil and creams will be provided but if you prefer to bring your own you may….no mineral oil please
