Basics
Basics is for new yoga students or practitioners of any level who want to practice at a slower pace. Poses are taught with a focus on proper alignment. Meditation and breathwork are introduced. Students prepare to enter intermediate/advanced classes. Basics classes are 90 minutes.
All Levels
All Levels is suitable for those with at least six months consistent yoga experience. All Levels classes link poses with breath and provide students with options to challenge and surrender their practice. The morning All Levels classes are geared towards energizing the body and clearing the mind. The evening All Levels class balances a strong practice with more chill sequences to unwind from your day.
Intermediate/Advanced
Intermediate/Advanced is for practitioners with a consistent yoga practice (at least one year). More challenging variations of poses are taught in a vinyasa format, including arm balances and inversions. Not suitable for beginners. Intermediate/Advanced classes are 90 minutes.
community classes
Community classes are a great opportunity for new teachers to hone their skills. They also provide students with an opportunity to practice at a discounted rate. All proceeds will go to the Mala Yoga Seva (Service) Fund and will be donated to community-based nonprofits at year’s end. These classes are all-levels, 60 to 75 minutes long and only cost $5.00! Class cards do not apply; cash only.
Prenatal
Prenatal helps moms-to-be stay strong, grounded, and flexible during pregnancy, as well as gain new tools to use during the birthing process. Prenatal classes are 75 minutes.
Baby & Me
Baby & Me is an opportunity for new parents to practice yoga and regain their core strength while practicing with their little ones. Baby & Me classes happen on a drop-in basis and are 75 minutes.
We ask that you wear your baby to class. If you bring a stroller, it must be broken down, taken upstairs and placed in the hallway bathroom.
Family Yoga (3-8yrs)
Family Yoga classes are designed to bring this beautiful practice to everyone. Each class will provide tools, games and poses that can be practiced at home with kids of all ages. Through group and partner work, games, breathing practices and more, beginner and experienced yogis will have fun exploring the possibilities! Classes improve strength, coordination and flexibility. Meditation, chanting and relaxation techniques are incorporated into each session. No yoga experience necessary. Adult participation is required.
Little Lotuses Yoga (crawling-3yrs)
This class introduces the basics of yoga to our tiniest yogis in a creative and active way. Circle time, storytelling, animal poses and parachute games are incorporated into the curriculum making the yoga practice fun and accessible. Breathing techniques, bubbles and relaxation help the little lotuses focus and find calm. Classes increase strength and improve coordination and balance. While yoga experience is not necessary, parents/caregivers are an integral part of this class and should come ready to participate. Down Dog I (3-8yrs)
Down Dog classes introduce children to the practice of yoga. Yoga poses and principles are explored in a variety of fun ways. Nature, basic anatomy, and imagination are all key aspects of the class. Children are encouraged to explore the way their bodies move through creative projects, collaboration, story time and songs. Chanting, breathing exercises and simple meditation practices relax and calm the mind. Each class finishes with relaxation-something the little yogis come to look forward to! Meditation
Whether you are an experienced practitioner or brand new to meditation Ricki Jean creates a supportive atmosphere that invites us to connect to inner knowing and spirituality. With guided meditation and music we will explore ways to bridge our outer and inner worlds to create a richer, more meaningful life experience.
Monday Morning & Evening: Join us for a half hour seated meditation, opening through heart center to engage in a deepening of balance, center, compassion and open-heartedness as we begin the week together. Ricki Jean uses guided meditation to help yoke the activity of the mind and allow a more full meditation experience. Sitting in meditation with others promises to encourage and expand your own devotional practice. All levels welcome.
Monthly Meditation: This series introduces new tools each month to explore and develop your meditation practice. Bringing intention to a seated meditation; Enliving the body through movement; Experimenting with mudras and breath work; Directing energies in meditation. Each class will include a 30 minute guided meditation and time for questions, self-reflection through journaling and art work, and group discussion. These classes are built on the practice of Heart Centered Meditation- channeling energy through the 4th Chakra, connecting us to compassion, balance, harmony, healing and a deeper relationship to our true self. All levels welcome. Bring Journal and pen.
How do I know what class is right for me?
As a community-based yoga studio, Mala is proud to support a teaching team where each teacher brings her unique voice and extensive experience to their classes. However, we understand it can be hard to find a style that best suits you. We hope the guide below can assist you in finding the appropriate teacher and teaching style.
If you are looking for alignment-based vinyasa, take class with Angela, Christina, Stephanie or Britt.
If you are looking for vinyasa flow, take class with Heather, Jen W, Lindsay, Lauren G, Daniella or Marcus.
If you’re looking for Anusara Yoga® or Anusara-inspired, take class with Tara.
